POOJA CABINETS / POOJA MANDAPAM

With many going in for apartments, puja cabinets come in handy as they save a lot of space.

  • Puja cabinets are available in wood, marble and acrylic.

  • They are customised to your needs and have architectural workmanship.

  • They are 10 inches to 6 feet in height.

  • Proper placement of puja room is important.

  • These cabinets substitute the real puja rooms.
The modular puja room concept has just emerged. Now with not many preferring independent houses and liking apartments instead, puja cabinets come in handy as they save a lot of space.
The cabinets are bedecked with chimes and bells and the doors give the real-room-effect.
The "in-house temple" effect is what many look for. Made of special Malaysian wood these come with an antique finish.
They are specially treated to be waterproof, oil-resistant and bore-resistant. They are custom-made. These cabinets are compact and occupy little space. The legs of the cabinet are designed in such a manner that they can be removed and refitted.
    Great appeal

Marble, considered close to divinity, is also fast moving.
These cabinets encompass traditional as well as contemporary types of designs and styles and are available in natural and smooth marble finish.
The stones are decorated with elegant inlay designs and patterns for the spiritual effect.
"These are available in several sizes, shapes and colours," says Kishan Mehta, a dealer. The impurities present in marble depends on concentration of the iron oxide which is also responsible for various colours such as pink, yellow, brown, green, black and white.
These colours offer great variety to the range of marble statues. These can then be polished and finished to perfection.
The "marble temples" are often carved and inlayed. They may even have intricate jali work.
The wooden ones may be painted in auspicious colours and symbols or carved, inlayed and over-layed with mirrors and metal pieces in intricate patterns.
The metal finishes can be given by giving a layer of metal sheets. White metal, oxidized silver and brass or copper finishes can be attained, adds Mr.Mehta.
The shape of the mandir is similar to the general structure of temples with a conical roof. The size may vary as per the individual requirement, available space and the purpose.
The size may go up to six feet.
"They may be crafted out of marble, acrylic or wood. These altars, designed like temples, also lend a decorative element to the home.
They may have a decorative metal sheet covering or be elaborately carved."

    Where to place them?

Where should your puja room take its place? According to vastu, the North-East corner of the house is ideal for a puja room. It is generally believed that the deity should face West, can face East or North but never face South.
North-East zone is considered most appropriate for worship because the morning sun's rays fall on the North - East Side of the house, which is most auspicious and good for health.
